Crazy Fun Night

So, my Aunt, Uncle, Mom, Step-Dad and I had tickets tonight to a crab feed at my cousin’s old high school. They were both very into baseball from childhood through high school. So my Aunt and Uncle are still supporters of their Athletic Dept. Anyway… at the last min, my Mom and Step-Dad felt like they were getting sick so they didn’t come. So my Aunt and Uncle’s friends, Mary and Bob, came instead. I have met them at a few events before. But tonight was too funny.

We got to the high school and found our seats. You had to buy tokens for drinks. 1 token for a soda or water. 4 for a beer or glass of wine. 16 for a whole bottle of wine. Well, they started out with a bottle that we shared. And everything went funny quickly. Me being amused by the 4 of them I mean. They started out with all the raffle prizes as we ate the rolls, salad and pasta the students and parents passed out. They even had a Sharks puck as a raffle prize. So proud :-)

But anyway… we were sitting next to 2 of the high school’s coaches. One was their basketball coast and Athletic Dept head, and not sure what the other guy coached.  But that coach was telling us that one of the prizes was a Warriors gift pack. It  included a jersey, tickets to 2 games and 2 T-shirts. But I guess at the last minute, his daughter and her best friend took a basketball to where some of the players were (today or yesterday) and got the ball signed to add to the pack. But I guess when this happened, the 2 girls and 2 of the players (Monta Ellis and Stephen Jackson) also exchanged phone numbers. And as we sat there eating, they were on a double date. I don’t know who these players are, but my Aunt being a Mom, was all concerned. So she passed the coach a note asking her to get in touch with her to make sure they got home safe.

Anyway, there was an abundance of fresh crab which was so good. We brought a little burner so we could have melted butter, but it really wasn’t needed. And as I drank a Pepsi, and the other 4 shared 3 more bottles of wine, the hilarity ensued. There was a centerpiece on the table all wrapped up with balloons hanging from it. I could tell it was a bottle of wine, so pointed it out to them. They proceeded to unwrap the thing, even as I said it was probably a door prize or something. They didn’t care, lol. They didn’t drink it, but Mary unwrapped it.

Of course a little later they announced that you should look at the chair you were sitting in, and if it wasn’t orange, then you won the bottle. The woman that won it was sitting right next to Mary, so they explained the unwrapping. It was too funny.

They also had an auction for things like a weekend trip to Tahoe, a reserved parking spot in the Senior lot for your kid, a Murder Mystery Party, etc. And some crazy amounts were paid. But as we were finally wrapping up to leave, Mary and my Aunt picked up every unopened moist towelette on the tables we walked by to take home. Then as we headed out the door, we saw one of the wine centerpieces in tact on the floor near the bathrooms. My logical head made me think that someone went to the bathroom and just set it outside. Mary however didn’t care, and had her mind set on getting a bottle of wine since the one she unwrapped earlier. So she grabbed it, ripped off the balloons and quickly walked to the car in hysterics. Which continued on the car ride home and once back. With Mary singing the Brownies troop song, and at one point me thinking she was singing “Baby Got Back”. Crazy people I tell you.

So the evening ended with my Aunt, Mary and I discussing a crazy weekend away down to Monterey or something. Knowing full well that they will embarrass the hell out of me, but it will keep me laughing the whole trip. At least I’ll be able to drink and keep up with them this time.
