Damn Sharks!!!

All I'm going to say tonight is this...

1. I've very upset, and almost numb.
2. I'm going to go have a few drinks.
3. I don't want to read anything negative about the Sharks tonight, so I'm going to go watch TV.
4. If anyone posts any comments about my blog, I may wait a few days to read it so I don't have to read anything negative.
5. As much as this makes me want to puke to say it, the Ducks kicked the Sharks ass tonight and deserved to win this series.
6. Because of the above... that would still never make me abandon the Sharks. I am let down right now, but I will never switch teams because of that.
7. I am now officially on the Blackhawks bandwagon in the West and the Caps in the East... if they move on tomorrow.

That's it for tonight, I just don't want to talk about it right now.

I'm so sunburnt!!! OUCH!!!

This isn't even close to the worst of the burn...

So my Aunt and I headed to the coast today just to get out of the house and the heat. One of our destinations in mind was the Taco Bell in Pacifica. Sounds silly, I know. But it's apparently the only Taco Bell to actually sit on a beach. And has a deck on the back where people from the beach can just walk up to all wet and order at a window. So, we figured me may as well check it out, just for the hell of it. It was on some Travel Channel Top 10 list at some point.

We then thought we'd beach hop and take some pictures. I don't know all the names, but they are between Half Moon Bay and Pacifica (Montara and Moss Beach are two). Mostly just pulling over at random lookouts or driving down coastal access roads when we saw them.

But one coastal access road took us unexpectedly to the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. So we pulled over and thought we'd check it out. They had a little Parks and Rec visitor booth so we walked over to get a pamphlet on the place. The Ranger in the booth let us know that the beach to the left was coned off because a harbor seal beached itself. So they were waiting for someone from the Marine Mammal Center to come check it out. So we wandered down to the reserve which is a nice beach with tons of rocks and tide pools. We took plenty of pics, and tried to look for the seal, but couldn't spot it. So, we just decided to sit on the bench and enjoy the view, and wishful thinking that we'd get to see the Marine Mammal Center person show up. And sure enough, maybe 15 mins later, the Ranger and a guy show up and walk out onto the coned off part of the beach. With a blanket the Marine Mammal guy picked up the seal from where it was laying between the rocks and laid it on the beach. He then got a better hold of him with the blanket and started carrying him back. As he got closer, he was telling us that the seal still had part of the umbilical cord attached, so they left him out there a day to see if the mother would come back. And since she didn't, they came out to rescue him. So he is probably just a few days old. And we got to see the little guy very close up (if you click on the pics, you'll get better photos). How cool was our timing to get to see that? So awesome!! And someone who was there while we were was wearing a Saku Koivu shirt. How random is that?

And at the end of the day...

Anyway, I think that was a pretty cool way to spend Earth Day.

The good, the bad and the ugly...

The good...

I babysat (and doggy sat) for my friend's kids from yesterday afternoon until this afternoon. Nicky (one week shy of 6 yrs) and Abby (7 yrs). So at least they are at an interactive age and could help me out when I needed to know where things were, have them dress themselves for bed, etc. I have always been Auntie to them. So we had a lot of fun... Abby doing fashion show, Nicky building a book castle for his toy cars, playing in the hose in the back yard, going to the park twice, going out for pizza and watching 2 movies until 11:30pm (I'm a nice Auntie :-) ) It was pretty fun filled.

The bad...

What the hell is wrong with the Sharks? Coming off the best record in the league and can't get a break against the Ducks? I'm not knocking the Ducks in general, as they are obviously a good team with an unusually good goalie right now. But their play wasn't up to their normal standard this season like in previous. So why do we now start to lose against them? UGH!!! 2 losses down and 2-5 games left to play depending on how this all plays out. But I'm staying optimistic for now.

The ugly...

What is up with this heat? It was at least 90-92 degrees where I was this weekend, and playing around at a park, etc in that just sucked for me. I am a mild to cool weather person, that's what I like. So when we have these heat waves, I hate it. Now if I was back in Hawaii with an ocean and swimming pool at my disposal 24/7, no problem :-)

Way to go Sarah!!

So I get a crazy phone call from my friend Sarah around 11:20pm tonight. She is all wired and talking fast and there is an echo. I'm like... where are you? Well she was in the bathroom of a bar in San Jose, lol. She was calling me to tell me that Brad Staubitz (a HOT Sharks rookie) was at the bar with another young guy, likely a rookie also but she wasn't sure who. And she was freaking out, in a good way :-) She kept second guessing herself though and wondering if it was really him. Because the Sharks played in Anaheim tonight, and the game ended around 7:30pm or so. But S.J. Airport has an 11:30pm curfew, so it was feasible that they were back already and happily chilling at the bar. And I checked out what other young rookies were still on the team, since a handful were just sent back to Worcester. And the only one it could have been was Jamie McGinn. Well, after 35+ texts between us (seriously) in the course of an hour and a half, and getting another friend of ours texting her too.... she finally told me she approached them. She asked if they were Sharks players, and they said yes. And she said, Staubitz and McGinn right, and they confirmed. So they chatted for just a few and were happy to take a picture with her. YAY Sarah!! She so would have regretted not approaching them if she hadn't, but she was so nervous to do it. There is one pic of Staubitz in the back of a car in my post from 3/24. Below is the pic she got with them. They guys aren't looking so great in this pic, but it's all good.
